Autumn Trip to the White Mountains

We have been working very hard around here...at jobs, stocking our Etsy shops (both mine and Colette's), preparing for the coming winter, and more.  But this week is all fun and games, because we have a visitor! And she gives us a wonderful excuse to run and play and leaf peep when New England is at its finest! And it's such a delight to show it all to her! You can visit the blog she keeps with her sister at The Merry Hearth!

"October gave a party;
The leaves by hundreds came--
The Chestnuts, Oaks, and Maples,
And leaves of every name.
The Sunshine spread a carpet,
And everything was grand,
Miss Weather led the dancing,
Professor Wind the band."

--George Cooper

Our first stop yesterday was The Flume Gorge in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. The Flume is a deep gorge cut through by the Pemigewasett River, which gushes through its granite, moss-lined walls. Trees sprout from its crevices and cling tenaciously to every little crag. A steady stream of Columbus Day weekend visitors walked its wooden boardwalk and marveled at the beauty of God's creation.

When we had worked up quite an appetite with all that fresh air and hiking, we headed further north to the Mount Washington Hotel for dinner. From their enormous wrap-around porch, we had the most spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and the fall foliage.

So much fun in one day! And we have several more days ahead of us! Can't wait to show her more of New England!
